International Programmes and Courses available

See our  Course Booklet  for detailed information on courses

Programmes are varied at Unlimited, and the length of course is flexible. There are three possible forms of enrolment for International Students:

A         Semester (two terms), Three Term, Full year (or more)

Each student will have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) of courses and programmes to suit their needs, abilities and interests.

Students enrolling in full time study are expected to undertaking some academic studies as part of their programme.

You could be seeking qualifications from the New Zealand Qualifications Framework such as the NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) and/or University
Entrance qualification. If Qualifications are not your priority, we also offer a range of different and interesting learning opportunities at different levels.

Our style of teaching and learning requires students to have the ability to undertake student directed learning, as well as classes and do extended Learner Directed research, on an area of study of particular student interest.

It is possible to follow specialisations such as ICT and entrepreneurship, Music and performance, Outdoor education,Sustainability and environmental issues.

Start dates are usually the first day of  New Zealand terms 1, 2 or 3. (we do not usually recommend beginning a course in term 4 due to the external exam timetable . See term dates for the actual dates.

Most international students begin courses in late January (Term 1) or mid July (Term 3).

B    Short courses (5 or 10 weeks)

Because all of our programmes are organised in 5 week blocks, it is possible to put together a programme to suit students who would like the opportunity to experience schooling and life in New
Zealand and improve their English. It is an opportunity to experience something unique in New Zealand with minimum disruption to your studies at home.

English Language requirements

Students wanting to study for Qualifications must have sufficient English to cope with the academic courses
        – IELTS Level 5 (or equivalent)  is recommended

Students on short courses and non-academic courses would need to be at a level of easy verbal communication.

English Language Support

If it is agreed that some extra English language support beyond that given by the school would be an essential part of the student’s IEP, the school will arrange some English language support classes with a reputable ESOL provider at no additional cost to the student.

The school reserves the right to assess the level of English when the student arrives and may revoke an offer of place or delay entry to academic courses if the level of English proficiency has clearly been incorrectly stated on the enrolment form. If entry to academic courses is delayed while the student undertakes ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) studies the student
will continue to be enrolled in the school and pay the tuition fees while taking classes with an ESOL provider. The tuition fees paid to Unlimited will normally cover the cost of these classes.

Attendance

The school will monitor attendance and the Director or Homebase LA will communicate concerns to the Homestay Coordinator who will contact your homestay parents and/or guardian. You are required to comply with the attendance requirements for students as outlined. Further advice is given in the student handbook and in the school policies on our intranet site.

Course requirements and completion

As each student has a personalised programme, you will be measured against the goals you have set in your Individual Education Plan (IEP). Normally once you have determined your programme for each 5 week schedule you are expected to attend all classes and complete all requirements relative to your schedule.  Your homebase LA can negotiate any changes for you.
