Gateway

Gateway programme workplace learning is a formalised learning arrangement set in an actual workplace, with clear understandings about the knowledge and skills to be attained, and the assessment of unit standards.

The Gateway programme is designed to strengthen the pathway for students from school to
workplace learning. Following a successful pilot, Gateway has been progressively rolled out
to state and integrated secondary schools. In 2008, senior students in over 340 schools
participated.

  • Gateway offers senior students in state secondary schools structured workplace learning opportunities integrated with their courses of study.
  • Gateway offers senior secondary students new learning choices and new opportunities to begin nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Gateway will help schools and communities develop strong relationships with local businesses and increase workplace learning opportunities for senior secondary students.

Gateway @ Unlimited

In 2009, we will have spaces for 10 students in year 11-13 to begin workplace placements. This does not mean that other work placements won't happen, but students on Gateway placements must be:

  • interested in a career in a particular industry
  • work-ready
  • able to undertake individual assessment for NQF credits in the workplace.

Gateway is not quite the same as "work experience". Before considering Gateway you should have a firm idea of the industry or work place you would like to work in.
