Secondary-Tertiary Alignment Resourcing (STAR)

The Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource (STAR) provides all state secondary schools with additional funding to access courses that provide greater opportunities for students. The objective of STAR is to enable schools to better meet the needs of students by personalising learning pathways and facilitating a smooth transition to the workplace or further study. Through a school based STAR Policy the resource can be made available to all students. The amount per school is calculated on the senior student roll. (MoE, 2008)

At Unlimited we allow all of our students regardless of age to enrol and try out appropriate STAR courses. These courses are an exciting way for students to begin careers and further study ideas. In the past we have had students enrol in:

  • At University:
    • Philosophy (including Stage 2)
    • Computer Sciences
    • Spanish
    • Te Reo Maori
    • Art History
  • Barrista Course
  • MYOB Financial Systems (15 Level 3 Credits)
  • Equine Studies
  • Pre-Trade Carpentry, Electrical, Automotive
  • Computing

There are more options available than is possible to list here. If you or student is interested in pursuing a STAR course, please get in touch with your homebase Learning Adviser or our STAR coordinator: Kirsty McMillan.
