‘..the right to live like a human…’
Maggie
“So what we’re talking about here is human rights. The right to live like a human. The right to live, period. ....” Bono. I remember being 15 years old and learning about Hitler’s plan to exterminate Jewish people in the 1940s. I was appalled and shocked not only by those events but also by the fact that at the time (the 1980s) people all over the world were still fighting for basic human rights. 30 years later, this still shocks me. In this class, we will look at how writers in areas such as Palestine, China and Africa use poetry and short stories to communicate their ideas. You will learn about the various language techniques they use to create effect and produce your own writing too.
Please note that this class runs for the whole term.

Level two and three art making towards a folio 2.1 Part Two - Investigating how it’s done
Holly
You will explore possibilities based on an investigation into media and techniques on a topic or theme of your choice. This may be in design/illustration or painting. Strong conceptual knowledge helps to makes your designing/art making more original so doing part one of this course will help you here. Your drawings will start by showing that you have looked at and understand some established practices. These ideas will help you to move forward and strengthen your own process. This part of the level three course helps you to find the kind of practical approach you will take towards your years study. Some investigation and playing around with techniques makes this stage kind of fun and very important for generating new/original ideas for your folio.

The Evolution of Culture: The Art and Literature of the Renaissance
Andre
Senior English for the rest of the year will explore key developments in the evolution of our culture and society, medieval to modern. The Renaissance, where we will resume, describes the epoch, about 500 years ago, when Western society, reinvigorated by the learning of the Greeks and Romans, gave birth to new, startling, unprecedented and, some would say, unparalleled artistic achievements. Chief among these are the paintings of Raphael, the sculpture of Michelangelo, the drawings of Leonardo, the architecture of Brunelleschi, the poetry of Spenser, the prose of Cervantes, and the drama of Shakespeare. This term we’ll meet all of these, as we chart the birth of our own civilization in the profound artistic flowering that took place in Europe between 1400 and 1600.

How do accountants manage to create a set of accounts? In fact, what are a set of accounts? And why do we need them? Well ........ all organisations (businesses, schools, clubs, charities) have to prepare financial accounts. Otherwise, decision-makers would not be able to tell if their organisation were making profits or not and also make informed decisions about future performance.
Over the course of a term, you will find out how the ‘double entry book system’ works and also how to prepare a set of financial accounts.

SUPPORT FROM CAs

Hi,
I'm John, the CA attached to NT2. I'm available to help students at any level and my teaching experience is in Science - Chemistry - Physics - Maths. Anyone who is looking for a bit of extra help, maybe a catch-up or a different approach, or some fresh inspiration should look out for me. I can do individual or small group sessions. Particularly happy to help with those struggling to get underway with maths at curriculum level 3 or 4. Generally I work Mon, Tues and Thurs, so come and look for me or send an email or a text to 027 698 8310. If Education for Sustainability is your passion or your ICL, please contact me for a chat.
John Adams

Hi everyone,
Although employed as a Community Assistant, based in Smile community, SS2, I have a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary), so am happy to help students who need assistance in any curriculum area...specifically to level 4/5/6. My strengths are in Literacy, Maths, Inquiry/ICL,French, Art and Music, but I'm able to give support with other subjects also. My role as a Community Assistant means I can provide a listening ear or am happy just to have a chat, and being a Mum to 16 and 17 year old daughters, have first hand experience with today's teenagers. Please encourage students to make use of what I can offer them, I am friendly, approachable, motivated and positive.
Thanks,
Sally Redden

If you have, or know of any individual, or small groups of, students who may benefit from some extra / 'different' help with their learning, I am willing and able to try to help.
I have Trade Cert in Ship, Yacht & Boatbuilding and my undergraduate degree is in Economics and post-graduate in Literacy & Maths Education so I have a 'bent' towards Maths, Economics, Literacy & what it's currently fashionable to call 'Hard Materials' although that doesn't mean I'd be useless at anything else if there were needs in other areas.
Generally this sort of thing works best with students who understand and accept the concept that one is responsible for one's own learning and that what one gets out of this sort of exercise is directly proportional to what one puts in, although that should not rule out those who have yet to come to grips with this.
I would be available 9:00-12:00 noon, Monday - Fridays and being the CA attached to NT4 more often than not can be found there. This doesn't mean I would only work with students from NT4. Any community where there's a need I'm happy & want to try to help.
Regards,
Peter.
